yeah, all the gear kits are prety much the same, some people say the older PreA+ ones are a bit stronger, but doubt theres a lot in it either way.

the only difference you'll find is the older boxes have 4 holes round the pinion gear for the bearing retainer, so can be a bit more prone to cracking, and also being a 1000 box it will have the different drop gears for the 1000 crank which you will need to swap to 1275 ones.

going back to the 4 holes, I actually run a 4 hole box as I'm using the old remote box and its been ok with 200+ hp, although I did add a KAD bearing support sith this in mind.

you can swap that gear kit into the later 3 bolt case, but you'll need to file the case for the 3rd motion shaft which is a smaller dia and longer on the early gear kits.

Thanks for the info joe c... love how helpful you guys are to us newbies hahah. So if I used the 1000cc box and fitted 1275 drop gears from a remote type box I have will this work.? .

I do have a remote type 1275 gearbox but my shell is a 1980 so need rod box and I'm not modifying body.

Yep that will do the trick,

A+ has diffenrent drop gears, in that they have a different gear shape and the idler gear bearings are larger, but all your stuff is earlier so it should just swap over.

you might even get away with just swapping the gear that goes on the crank.

how much power are you looking at? I would say 140 hp is the upper limit for that setup.

I see..

Looking for around 120-130 hp ish... ok I might just buy a diff and try and use 1275 drop gears. I didn't know if a factory box would handle that much power. I don't know km/miles on box but was ok in the 1000cc before being pulled apart... just trying to find a 1275 box here is not easy at all.. my 1275 box unfortunately is wrong for my body

it would be an idea to replace the bearings, but as a 1000 its probably not had a hard life. pull the dif pin out and have a look, thats gennerally a good indicator of how shot well looked after its been.

not really,

only obvious things like check the layshaft for wear, ( probably fine), keep stuff clean, and stick a centre oil pickup pipe in while its apart.
