Hey Folks,

I don’t own a turbo Mini, but a tuned 1275cc Mini with about 90bhp.
The gearbox lasts so far, but I am afraid of a little whine from my drop gears. I may have to check them next month. As I had 2 destroyed gearboxes due to drop gear issues, both of them were not installed by me, I always have a bad feeling, when it comes to drop gears.
As my car is only a weekend toy and slalom racer, I’m thinking about installing the MED roller straight cut drops. Does anyone knows about failing etc. with these gears?
And yea, I konw: They are really loud and whine, but I’ve read, the 24 tooth version should be a lot more quiet. Can anyone confirm that?

Straight cut or helical gearbox?

Helical so far, but will be replaced for straight cut close ratio wehen I have to do. the next gearbox overhaul. Maye next year, depends in the next seasons milage.

If the helical drops are failing, there could be miss alignment between the gearbox case and transfer case.

Why don't you ask MED?

I run them. They are loud as per all sc drops. No issues.

What condition is the gearbox andntransfer case bearings in? Good bearings and correctly shimmed drops should survive that power/torque.
