how do people with no commen sense get in positions of power?

our local deputy mayor has opened his gob he has said that all premiture babies should be left to die and all severly disabled babies should be guillotined

I can see why you might be offended by is opinion, but its not like he is going round killing babies is it. We are a country of free speech, but say something a bit odd and you get slated.

I don't agree with what he said, but he has the right to say it.
