If your minis a daily driver, you will be very happy you did, i'v clocked up a good 13k miles so far on my hybrid mini, starts furst turn of the key every morning, returns 50mpg, doesnt drop any oil, has a 5 speed box and has a reasonabl eamount of poke :)

Dont get me wrong though, from what i have seen of road legal hybrid(FWD) minis, there not putting in similar times up the strip to the cars on here, and if you choose a heavy engine, or frame could* end up with a poor handling car due to the extra weight over the front.

still, i wont be going back to an a-series *happy*

*im sure with experimentation with suspension setup this could be sorted, but as teh a-sereis is so tried and tested theres alot of info out there...

it will b a weekend car mate, but i want something more reliable plus it wont guzzel fuel as im not loaded.
just thoguht it would b rather nippy, ive drove a couple of starlets as my friends own them and they tune up rather well.
the things im mainly worried about is the engine mounts and the wireing

it will be rather nippy, i can comfortably beat CTR's clio cups etc on the strip with a humble standard 1600 rover k-series, jsut dont expect to go jumping straight into the 13's *wink* the engine mounts wont be to much of an issue if you jsut over engineer them, the main area for concern on a modified or home made frame IMHO is the tie bar mounts, as these take all the abuse from the car accelerating and breaking and they are so far away from all the subframe mountings that the stress they place on teh frame is much greater. again if you jsut overengineer and use soem common sence you should be alrite :)
I went through 3 designs of bottom engien mount, and settled on one made of 5mm thick steel plate, it hasnt broken yet *tongue*

have a shifty round www.16vminiclub.com if your bored the cars can be built for very little (mine was) but if you start farming out work to others, be it for bodywork, frame, electrics etc it wil start to get very expensive very quickly.

well i was thinking of putting some heafty bit of engine mounts on, the wireing, i can get the diagrams off toyota site for the wireing. was looking at a pace intercooler/ TD04 turbo and FCD with right fueling should take me to 220bhp.
which is why i need to make it solid dont want the front ripping off lol

wwell if your building the frame you can build in sutiable stregnthening on the floor if you feel the need ,like mininut's frame on the 16vminiclub, which IIRC bolts to the floor all the way back to the crosmember! however most frames jstu use the standard mounting points. but this is all pretty useless info untill you offer an engien up to a chopped up frame and see for yourself how everything sits, so you know what needs modifying, what needs completely re-engineering and what can be jsut left alone *wink* MAy i reccomend you get a complete donor car. by far teh cheapest method of building.

they way my subby got slated in its earlier itterations, i wouldnt go copying it *wink* however there are pics in the gallery on 16vminiclub - members galleries - evolotion - 1.6k into clubby build (or soemthign like that) since those pics were taken i'v added a few wee corner gussets here and there but nothign major. theres pics of lots of frames in all the galleries, and plenty of discussion on teh foums, tbo it srelatively straightforward, think of every force and its direction that any suspenion and engine mount may place on the frame, then add suitable stregnthening to stop that point moveing under those forces. :)

also when designing the frame keep in the back of yoru mind basic servicing / maintinance, like gearbox oil, driveshafts, sump access cambelt and clutch, and try make these as accesable as possible. i had to pull my engien to do a clutch change, but managed to do a cam belt change in situ :)
