I know a chap round the corner who has one of these (see lionk)heads - I very nearly bought it, but I went the turbo route in the end. I found this link whilst on the web:

As I am now building the MK1 s l o w l y I'm thinking of tuning, which got me thinking about this again. I know its not really a turbo related question and appologies for this, but as your all such a friendly and knowledgeable bunch I thought you might be able to throw some views my way on whether it would be worth getting. The chap around the corner has all the manifolds etc.
The tjing that always worried me was the thing could be/ could go pourous?

It would be unique and rare, but is that a good thing...?

All depends on the cost i would say. it's always good to have unique setups but at the end of the day if it cost a shed load of cash to purchase then get fixed to a condition worth running it may be just a much money to go the 16v route.

Why not see if you can organise to buy it, on the condition that it checks out OK with a pressure test that you will pay for?

That way, you know what you are getting it sound and not just a hunk of expensive scrap...........
