HI

While I have my mini in bits I'm thinking of fitting a front rad.
I'd like to keep the intercooler where it is. But reckon that if I move the oil cooler else where I could fit a mpi rad in its place. Obviously I'll have to adust the front panel but should be able to do that and still get the grille on.

My question is, what mpi rad is best these days? Genuine one from minispares or one of these from ebay....

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=htt...%2F292214613838

I'm running a water cooled gt17 turbo and a electric pump. The engine is also dry decked. I'm hoping to be able to run decent amount of boost so need a decent rad.

Thanks
Josh

I’ve personally found the standard mpi rad a bit marginal on a normal 1380, so a turbo might be a step to far on a hot day in traffix

I've got a denso alternator on the shelf but I couldn't get it to work. Might try that again failing that, Med do a 60amp smaller one. Bit pricey though.

Van used to cook with an MPI rad. I had a cinq rad with a 2wd cossie intercooler above it in my clubby.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Swansea boyo!

The MPI rad isn't good enough for my engine, it doesn't cope very well during summer. Sitting already baking and then you have to put the heater on to try cool it down a bit haha. But I was wondering how people got on with the ebay specials too as it's definitely something I need to change on mine..

Did you have to move the number plate with that set up John?
I like the way my current intercooler fits and would like to keep it there if I can.

The alloy mpi ones are thicker than the standard mpi ones. And are 2 core. Not sure what a standard type is though.

I lowered my number plate on the original brackets and put 4 swaged holes in the front panel, arguably with a bit of ducting that wasn't required.

I think I'm going to go for a ebay side mount special

The 2 core rad that's in it isn't too bad. It just heats up a bit when you hit traffic. I haven't got a mechanical fan and it's about 12 years old so maybe I'm asking too much from it lol.

I'd never run a side mount with out the mechanical fan personally.

Got a electric fan and it's ducted. I've modified the cowling as well. We'll see.

OT your intercooler is similar shape to mine. Mine was off benny which was a copy of Nics. How does it/where does it attach?

I got it of someone on here. Can't remember who.

It's got two mounts on the bottom of if it on rubeers.
The top is just held by the hoses tbh. When it's plumbed in it doesn't move much. Obviously it moves a bit on the rubbers but if it was solid it would shake to bits.
