Morning all,
I have recently bought another mini after having a 998 Mayfair in my teens and early 20's. It is an MPI which is great for using as a daily at the moment but I would like some more power at some point (don't we all!)
I have a lead on a complete metro turbo engine and was wondering how difficult the conversion would be from MPI to turbo? I've used my best google-fu and I haven't come up with a proper answer.
Cheers,
Jamie

well, not without its issues,

as the MPI block is different to move the alternator, this causes a problem, I guess you could revert to the older side rad setup, but that would probably be a faff, you might be able to flip the alternator up somhow on the st block to miss the mpi rad,

also if your planning on using the std metro turbo and manifold you'll need to cut the bulkhead, or get an aftermarket manifold and smaller turbo.

another issue would be emissions, although the car is supposed to be tested top the age of the engine, i can imagen geting this sorted to be a pita.

Funny you should say that but I actually have a side mounted radiator as the car was originally a '94 1275 carb Mayfair.

I was thinking about using the Fusion manifold and smaller turbo so I wouldn't have to cut the bulkhead.

No emissions testing in Jersey so that's not a problem!

prety much good to swap it in then,

the MPI tank makes it easier as youve gort a feed and return of the right pressure.

you'll have to look at what speedo drive you need for the Metro turbo diff (3.2-1 rather than the MPI 2.9-1), and also what to do with all the MPI ecu paraphanalia

Thanks chaps *smiley*

Has anyone used the SC EFI kit with a turbo and what would that involve?

I'm thinking of buying the kit and getting some head work done for now then saving a bit of cash to do the turbo conversion.

certainly the SC ecy will do the job, youll need a pressure sensor rather than (actually in adition to...) a TPS sensor

ive fiddled with it on a freinds K headed motor and found the interface not as intuitive as other stuff, I would advise downloading the tuning software, and haveuing a look at it, and better still getting whoever is going to tune the car to look at it, as some RR's will not touch what they dont know.

a big point in SC's favor is the availability of looms, if you arnt confident in wiring up all the sensors then its probably best avoided
