hi,i am looking at buying a metro turbo engine from someone on another mini site but need to make sure it is a turbo lump before i part with the cash and was hoping that one of you guys could help me out.the engine number is 12HC16AA ****** and the numbers on the gearbox casting are A/BZ3..DAM..BC&M...6620.
would this be a turbo engine?.also he says that this is a 5 speed box with the engine, would the gearbox numbers tell me anything about it without taking it off the engine and physicaly looking for myself.
thank you.

5 Speed box from Who ? MiniSpares or Jack Knight ?

With regards to your question concerning the engine numbers

MG Metro Turbo leaded fuel pre 1989 1275cc 12HD26
MG Metro Turbo unleaded 1275cc 12HF01
Metro Turbo could be leaded or unleaded 12H959AA

Do not take the engine number above as correct. I have removed genuine turbo engines from a few Metro Turbos, which have not had engine number anywhere near the above.

The engine you describe is 12HC, which is a Metro 1300 HLE engine. However if it has a five speed box then chance are that the engine has been apart for a rebuild and therefore any pistons / head modification could have occurred in the process.

I hope this helps
