Heya all.

Just about to take my 79 GT Clubman convertible (originally hard top) back to a hard top.

I have found a 1986 shell which is in good condition for what I need, which will be basically the entire roof and all pillars with exception to the front.

I have done some quick googling and have read the Mk4 ran from 1976 - 1996 so assuming it will be ok?

Can anyone confirm if in fact this will be a like for like match?

Any comments our help with this question and any hints if anyone has undertaken this change would be great.

Cheers, Jamie

I think the only difference in those years that may slightly affect you is the difference of rear parcel shelf, and the pillars around the location of the door light switch.

Heya Dave,

Thanks for the message, great to see you still here 😀

Hmmmm this seems like it could be a little issue, so you think this could be an issue marrying the roof pillars up to the 79 shell?

I am lost when you say the pillars around the door light switch? Is this in the door frame?

As only looking to put the roof on from the bottom of the window seals.

'Step' the pillars.. dont just do a straight cut/weld

(So in other words have the inner skin and outer skin at different points so its not a straight weld)

The later C-pillars will also have seat belt mounts, but this plate could easily be removed
