hi folks

just swapped the turbo on my mini cause it was smoking, thought it might be the turbo i had rebuilt myself at home. smokes a bit less but still smokes. not on idle, but, for example, if i coast for a while, when i get on it puffs of smoke come out. from what i read seems like its rings... although im using new total seal rings. sick of these problems.

so my question is, besides the omegas, do mini spares have a piston that is "tubrominis" approved? i remember reading few years ago that there mega range were up to the task. but seems link they dont make them anymore. is there another option from them? looking for +20 pistons.

Sounds more like valve guides/stem seals to me from your description of the symptoms. Coasting equals high vacuum so it pulls oil down past the valve stem. When you open throttle that oil then exits stage rear as a cloud of blue smoke.

Most likely stem seals as suggested above. With the poor quality of rubber these days the ordinary stem seals don't seem to last and soon harden. Though they're a little more expensive I only use the MPI spec (brown) viton type now as they're much better.

Shouldn’t have a problem at 15psi if everything is correctly set up. Others have pushed more through them if I recall correctly.

Mine took 10 psi for many track days. They were taken out to 14cc.

One of the ring lands cracked but I think this was my fault due to poor fitting.
