Hi thanks for letting me in. 1st post so go easy on me (hopefully it’s on the right sections) currently stripping my mini and rebuilding. What’s peoples opinions on coating subframes once blasted and also the under body of the car? I’ve read mixed reviews about hammerite and powder coat on the frames and not sure what to do under the car? Any input would be great thanks |

For subrames if you have access to spray gun etch primer followed by 2k epoxy primer then either 2k top coat or hammerite |

For the underneath, UPOL acid etch primer, UPOL Gravitex stonechip and them i'm using a 2k basecoat (body paint) over that so its easy to clean. Edited by jonny f on 26th Sep, 2018. |

Hammerite is awful. Avoid like the plague. Use a professional product. Gravitex has been mentioned or maybe raptor. Both are good products.

Hammerite is awful. Avoid like the plague. Totally agree with this. Its only good for a garden gate and even that is questionable. I've used a 2-pack marine epoxy primer before, its really good stuff, Jotun 87 where the 87 refers to percentage solids. You mix a resin in it and then use it and it cures. I once mixed too much up so was looking around for something to use it up. I had outside a pair of big axle stands I'd made from angle iron, they were red rust. Painted this stuff on over the top. They still live outside, the paint looks as good as the day I put it on. Some drops on the garage floor will only come off with a chisel!
