Does any1 know how hot the turbo casing gets at its hottest point?

or what is the maximum amount of heat you are likely to get from the turbo?

and what sort of tems is the carb exposed to if no heat sheild is present?

the reason i would like to know this is because i am working on some light weight heat shields to direct the heat through the bonnet rather than around the carb etc.

you could make a stainless steel tray with a lip all the way round the edge, and mount it above the turbo

that way if you are peckish you can knock up some bacon and eggs or maybe a few burgers.....

LOL

the cooking ideas are great, although trying to fry an egg in it would be a little difficult. Do any of you protect the carb or do you just leave it? No point in wasting my time if i don't have to

cheers

We have a heat shield on ours, but it is next to usless. It really needs air movement to remove the heat. As suggested a fan or some such device works best. We just have some holes on the bonnet above the carb to let the heat out, this makes a supprisingly massive difference.

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

Lake District

I'm also running a water cooled Turbo, 88deg stat and Minispares 2 core rad. No overheating trouble at all, infact i noticed very little difference in water temp changing from the T3 to the water cooled T2. Currently running 12psi, though i suspect it would have some effect on water temp if the boost was increased somewhat.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

slightly ot, but as cooling systems have been mentioned...
my over heating problems have gone at the mo

im using watercooler t2 plumbed in at the heater take off and top hose

mini spares 2 core rad

rover 214 fan with the shroud cut down to completely cover the radiator, sucking air through

no mechanical fan

std type water pump

ran at 190F round 5 thrashing laps of castle combe and around 170F on the 74mile journey back including getting stuck in traffic

edit: i once measured the temp of my manifold, i think it was something like 320deg after a good drive, might be wrong though

my bonnet is tilted at the back so there are filter will fit in, it will lose some heat through there
