Does any1 know how hot the turbo casing gets at its hottest point? If it breaks... build a much faster one |

you could make a stainless steel tray with a lip all the way round the edge, and mount it above the turbo

the cooking ideas are great, although trying to fry an egg in it would be a little difficult. Do any of you protect the carb or do you just leave it? No point in wasting my time if i don't have to

We have a heat shield on ours, but it is next to usless. It really needs air movement to remove the heat. As suggested a fan or some such device works best. We just have some holes on the bonnet above the carb to let the heat out, this makes a supprisingly massive difference. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

a few 100 degrees! I measures mine once and the car was at tickover and NOT glowing and it was nearly 300 degrees. Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

i think they start to glow at about 550 deg whether thats f or c i cant remember, we had pyros on are tubo on the boat i used to work on and they always glowed and this was the running temp. always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas |

on the rolling road my turbo saw temps of around 280 degrees, but my turbo is water cooled. On 15th May, 2009 TurboDave said:

with that jim is it hard to keep the engine cool as well. what rads are you using. always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas |

I'm also running a water cooled Turbo, 88deg stat and Minispares 2 core rad. No overheating trouble at all, infact i noticed very little difference in water temp changing from the T3 to the water cooled T2. Currently running 12psi, though i suspect it would have some effect on water temp if the boost was increased somewhat.

I fitted 3 EGTs and logged the data - had 925°C max temp in the runners to the turbo (at full load!) Bimmer Twinky headed and turboed A-Series:
