It won't be a problem if you have declared your project SORN though.

Although I can't see a £60 fine putting anyone (read: idiots) off not getting insurance when insurance is so costly.

yeah, makes no odds to me, - why have a road legal taxed car, and not insure it?

good idea imho - as long as you can still SORN cars.

I will be interested to see how that is going to work. Being a named person on a trade insurance policy means I am insured to drive whatever the hell I like, as long as I have the permission of the owner of the vehicle. Therefore, if I buy a car that is taxed and mot'd, I can quite legitimately drive it about without having to apply for any additional insurance whatsoever. But under this new system, will I face a fine as the vehicle reg in question transferred to me is not explicity insured? Will have to see..........

have they changed other insurance laws too?

me and my dad have a series 1 landrover, ive been insured on it in my dads name for the past 2 years fine, however its just come up for renewal and no one will insure me on it as its in my dads name and im under 25 with points.

very very very annoying, esp as its only insured for 1000 miles and its not even a quick car!

Tom, dont forget the EU directive that has been in place for a few years now.

basically, any car that is in a "traders" possession for more than 14 days must be declared to their insurer, in order for you to be covered for driving it.
This applies to ALL fleet type policies. Every car must be declared, and is held on a Europe wide database apparently.

But these new laws are just ridiculous. Basic insurance required by law, is 3rd party road risks. If the car isnt being driven on the road, then why the f*** does it need to be insured ?

Then another matter. Ive had friends that have had cars stolen, then involved in accidents with the police. On rammed the other, or so the story goes.

And guess what, despite the car being stolen, and driven by a scumbag with no isnurance, the ploice claimed for damages/injuries, and it came out of the car owners policy.

Perhaps when he bough his insurance, the Policy stated people who are insured to drive. "The policyholder only, and any scumbag who decides to steal the car"

The government are so ant-car these days, yet motorists basically fund the running of the entire country. It is beyond a joke.

If the government wanted to get rid of unisnured drivers, they would add basic 3rd party cover to fuel costs. Its that simple.
Their strategy of fining people is yet another money making scheme.

Who even thinks of these ridiculous schemes, and even worse, who votes for them ????

Someone who is not interested in driving anything other than their boggo 1.2 corsa or maybe their nice new RangeRover (more likely) - that's who...

as will said so lomg as your cars sorned then you will be ok.

minimole not sure about everyones inurance but mine will cover both your new car and the one your trying to sell for 2 weeks free to give you time to sell it.

at lot of the EU laws etc are boolox, BUT in my opinion the problems with car insurance and the fact that its so expensive is imho due to all the nobhead car theifs, the nobhead boy races that carnt drive and the nobheads that claim for whiplash as soon as a vehicle even taps the back of there car, fare enough if youve got whiplash tho. its a visious circle =
boy racer cant afford his insurance on his nova so gets it in his mums name (hence nics problem)
boy racer cant drive so crashes into the arse end of somebody
they then sue him for whiplash
mr insurance has to pay for the wrote off nova £50, £1500 to repair the focus boy racer hit and £2000 for the whiplash claim. so wheres mr insurance going to get his money from? us !!! he is running a business after all unfortanatly. so what do we do?

shoot boy racers and car theives. and stop sueing people if they even scuff your car.

rant over*tongue*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.
