After a long break from Minis my car is undergoing a major overhaul. I’m redoing the body work as it’s getting scabby. The first rebuild I did as an apprentice, so funds and knowledge was fairly low!

I’ve just finished welding in a complete drivers side floor and associated parts. I’m at the stage of welding on the sill. So the question is what’s the best method to weld it to the floor? Is plug welding acceptable? I’ve been trying to find a spot welder for the lip but I’m not having much luck at the minute. What’s the go to rust protection at the minute?

Cheers Ron

Yeah plug weldings fine aslong as its a good weld.. a dress back and theres no reason why it wont look like its spot welded, i always use zinc 182.. its a great primer and rust inhibiter.. i always spray the back section of any plate im doing.. if i can work out where the weld will be and penetrate i paint everything else i can.. i spray hammerite stonechip on top of the 182 where i can too as thats got waxoyl mixed in
