After loads of issues with my engine I’ve now rebuilt it, rings, hone, cam bearing, mains etc and .......... it’s still smoking 🤬
Previous to this I rebuilt the turbo, valve guides good with new seals
Any possible answers? Maybe head cracked???
It’s quite a white smoke.
AFR gauge is running 13.
Starts perfect and revs fine

Cheers

What’s the oil return like ? Free flowing and of a decent size ?

good thought from Phil,

now i'm at a PC,

any signs of oil burning anywhere? on the plugs, in any of the exhaust ports inlet ports etc...

I remember Any had an issue with oil getting down the side of one of the guides, ( between the guide and head)

White smoke sounds like it's from the turbo. Oil return is worth a check.

Just because the turbo has been rebuild doesn't mean that it's right. It might be worth taking it off and seeing if it still smokes. If so you have your answer.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Same goes for the engine, only takes a small oversight.

If its brand new rings, hone etc, do you just need to drive it under load to make the rings bed in?

As Tom said, if it’s a new build you’ll need to bed the rings in. Pull the boost hose off the compressor housing and see if there’s any oil in there to.

gotta disagree (respectfully) with new rings and a hone, if its ok it will be smoke free from the get go.

I would definately try it without a turbo, and then with a spare head, even a crappy old 998 head should do for testing purpouses? then your back to rings / bore.
