Well I did get mine in the end.

After my 25 minutes in store waiting and my declining the duty manager's invitation to spend another hour in the B&Q next door whilst he tried to find them in the 20 pallets of bicycle parts he took my name/address before I left.

And, true to his word, he posted them to me, arrived yesterday. No cost for postage, not even the cost of the sockets (he couldn't take the payment as he couldn't find them at the time).

So 100% to the duty manger at Ipswich but minus 100% for the company's ability to deal with something that simple.

Well I got a text to say they were processing the order but called into local shop today and nothing there. They said they were going to follow it up with customer services and then let me know, but I’m not holding out much hope TBH.

I have just had my second message to say they are there and still not at the store.

Going to try tomorrow and see if they will swap my torque wrench which has stopped clicking

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Picked mine up today! Also swapped my torque wrench that I got in 2007 that had stopped clicking. They just gave me the new version.
Great customer service. But as a business they need some help, or they will disappear. They need to me more supercheap auto and less Woolworths.

At least they called you. I got a message to collect it, then when there they said the order was cancelled! The guy at the shop was ok though, he said he would try and find one from another store (still waiting to hear from them, although not expecting to ever be called).

More worryingly he seemed to think they were dropping the supply of imperial tools!

I’ve no doubt that is the case, that is why they are clearing these sockets out cheaply.

^^^ Exactly that.

The whole world - apart from the USA - has been mostly metric for decades.

Apart from MPH and MPG (which is mostly UK only) everything else in the engineering world is metric. The only real irony in the automotive world is that wheels/tyres remain resolutely imperial. So far as I'm aware it was only Leyland/Rover who tried to make them metric with the Metro, and that attempt failed miserably....

Another irony I suppose is that all your metric socket sets will still be 1/4" or 3/8" or 1/2" or 3/4" drive......

Surprisingly, metric tyres were used on more vehicles than you might first think, but possibly not in the volumes that Austin used them.

Well I never knew that....

But as the article says - "the betamax of the tyre industry".

And we don't even have VHS anymore and DVD is on its way out in favour of Bluray or 4K or just streaming from the internet...

And back on topic, an awful lot of "bolts" on modern cars are torx (internal or external), not hexagon, so forget imperial vs. metric because you need two completely new "socket" sets in your toolbox.....

I had to buy both a few years ago just to change the rear wheel bearings on my old mondeo because it used torx bolts and the original ones were internal torx and the new bolts were external and they had to be very small 3/8" drive to fit through the hole in the drive flange.

And I just said 3/8" again....

Well bloody look what I’ve got!
Almost a month after I’d ordered them, got a phone call this morning to say that they were ready to collect!
Bargain!

What noise did that engine make when you started it, if it was full of lost sockets?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
