Hi long time lurker on this great forum :) I’ve got a 16v 150bhp a series engine in my mini and the box has got to come out for a repair and wondering if fitting an atb over a cross pin is worth the extra 700 quid (it already has the cross pin). The suspension set up is spot on and the car is used for fast road plus the very occasional track-day. I’ve read mixed reviews on other forums and know of two atb failures. If anyone has some experience I’d be grateful to hear it to make an informed decision, cheers.

Mine has made a massive improvement in getting the power down, on and off track.

If you can afford it it's a no brainer.

^would also be interested to hear the failures. Only one I’ve ever seen was Simon twisting the output shaft I think.

Probably a daft question, but as the driving feel with a cross pin isn't too bad (apart from the torque steer) would you all recommend upgrading to an ATB?

it'll feel the same until you start to loose grip then you will noticabley feel the nose pull in but not in an agressive way, they are pretty progressive, also they never totallty loock up like a plate/pawl diff, so are more forgiving.

If you had a plate type diff would you swap it for an ATB or vice versa. Why would you choose one over the other. I have a Gripper unit to fit In my box when done just wanted to hear opinions

Depends on usage, race a plate diff will be better, road an atb

compared to my mini ,which has a 4 pin diff , when nic took me out in his car with a atb i was amazed at the increase in grip . he said he reckoned a atb and yoks was worth about .5 second in the quarter , which would put the spud in 12.6 territory.

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM
