just got hold of a freshly built JK SCCR box. Although i've changed a few boxes before, is there any hints and tips of what to do/check while fitting? Like slapping on the transfer case to the gbox before offering to the block so u can check the idler float etc. Any others or some tips on what to check etc?

Change the first motion bearing and bearing race in the transfer case. Also get the proper THIN gasket from dare i say it MiniSpares (22A2237B) as this will help set the idler gear clearance.

stowmaket suffolk

check the layshaft end float for a start,
check your idler endfloat.
get hold of the first mtion shaft nose and give it a wiggle you will get very slight movement but not excessive if it is excessive then a new first mtion shaft bearing and main shft nose bearing will be required.

with a small screw driver check pull each baulk ring towards each gear cone and check for clearance the bigger the gap the better if they vertially touch the engaging teeth then new baulk rings will be required.

i no you said freshly built but buy whom, as this will dtermine weather it was chucked togther or properly built.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

cool nice info guys - i do not know who it was built buy, or when. Although it looks good, we all know that doesnt mean it is good - hense why i was after some checkpoints. One thing i did remember to make sure, and that was it came with its matched diff case.

With the thin gasket, do u use the liquid gasket too?

I use Wellseal but it's hard to get in the UK i think.. Go with a smear of Hylomar Blue on both side or something along the same lines.

I use Wellseal too, and know a local place to me that sells it. I think its about 12 quid a tube but well worth it, oil leaks gone for good!
