i'm in the middle of changing my CW&P, just got to the stage now where i need to lock 2 gears together to undo the pinion nut.

I've got my trusty metro haynes manual but its as clear as mud to me. There's pictures of everything except locking the gears. i know its probably staright forward but i'm confused at the words its using. Bell cranks and such?????

I've got the moleys on the selector shaft to pull it out a little then anti-clockwise to disengage it. then it says something about pushing a lever to engage 1st gear???this is where i'm stuck, what do i push and which is 1st gear *blush*

I've figured out the 2nd part about pushing something towards the pinion to engage 4th gear i think.

Anyone got any pictures or an idiots guide please?

i've had a search and all i can really find is how to get the nut undone :(

got myself a windy gun yesterday...but no xantia to hold the box down *happy*

pull the selector out completely...

then push the two selector hubs away from each other (so that both engage a gear).

To undo the nut....

get a huge lever inside the box to push against and remember to use a long breaker bar on the nut...

windy guns are no good!

not done this myself as yet, but a chap at work was stuggling with the same thing and he phoned a gearbox specialist and they said to drop in a nice thick oily rag to lock it out!!

use xantia to undo nut ....

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

Dont forget to remove the sleeve that is around the spring/ball bearing thing.Then get a bit of wood and whack both nd gears outwards

You dont need to whack the selectors and risk damaging them to get it in gear.

dissengauged the selector shaft just grab the syncro hubs and put it into gears by hand

cheers dudes. i've managed to lock the 2 gears together now. haven't removed the ball and cup just the spring, is this gonna cause me any problems?

And Alex you're right the windy gun hasn't touched it >:( gonna drop the car on it tomorrow night and get the 2m length of 40mm box over the breaker bar.
