So we didn't get many miles done this year either. It appears to have been building excess crank case pressure which was causing oil to get into the clutch. A combination of not enough breathing, to wide ring gaps, and possibly not quite aggressive enough during the run-in. Hey-ho.

Oh, and it popped a head gasket on a test run

Anyway - what's next? Well...this lot...



Another 998 (can't change that now!) but this one has had a bit more work done...

+60 block, re-ground crank with matched primary gear, ACDodd RS FI cam, and a CalverST St3 head.

CR should be around 9:1 with the chamber CC I asked for.

So the job this winter is to do the dry build and get the block back to Mr Dodd for final decking and oil squirter install, then get another gearbox built up.

Nice! Didn't think Dodd did oil squirter work? I was told on multiple occasions he didn't.

And they're in!

When you dry build, check the clearance between the underside of the piston skirt and the the nozzle at BDC on all four pistons.
If the facing cuts to get a flat surface are deep you may have pistons touching jets.

Usually people notch the pistons to clear.

Nah, I was just going to run it and let them self clearance, what the worst that could happen?

No, of course clearance will be checked during the build.

If care is taken this is not necessary.

Finally checked and...loads of room!
