Hello,

I am sure i saw either on here, or on Facebook, some recommendations for initial torque settings and re torquing the head after running the engine through a heat cycle.

I am not even sure the recommendation was to run the engine for a short period of time without coolant.

Any ideas - or a link ? Did i dream it?

What torque setting does everyone else use?

I have 11 studs, and using the Minispares Competition head stud and nut kit.

I think i will follow the torque settings that Minispares recommend, if no one has a compelling reason for doing anything else.

I have had my torque wrench calibrated ready.

Cheers

Ah, found it on Facebook Stuart Gurr runs them for 40 seconds with no coolant to bed the gasket in.

He doesn't mention if he re torques afterwards.

As I have had mine dry decked, not an issue.

Would be interested to know if anyone re torques the head

Re torque the head after a full cycle once it's been bedded.

I just re torque after about 200 miles. Not driving hard in that time.

I don’t think I’ve ever bothered doing it with the BK 450 gasket.
Just tighten it down and pack as much boost in as you can. Jobs a goodun.

Always mean to recheck but never seem to get round to it - and never lost a head gasket yet

I can't say I've ever noticed that line in the Haynes manual?

In the past I've found them a bit slack on rechecking after a full cold/hot/cold cycle, but not so much that I would have been worried.

So after running in, I will check the head but torques when I check the tappet clearances.
