Hi,
I need to decide what inlet manifold I should get.
I think there are three options that I could uss in combination with an HIF44 carb and FusionFabs exh. manifold.

Op 1 MG Metro standard, op2 MG Metro turbo or op3 high flow manifold from Moss Europe.

Price wise the Moss manifold is atractive. But what manifold would you use from performance point of view?

Thanks
Ralf

The Vizard yellow book shows the MG Metro item having a good flow rate above others available.

wow, you mean the standard Metro one, not the turbo inlet?
Does it make sense to port the manifold a little?

Yep, pretty sure from memory the Mg one flows a higher CMF than the turbo one , I'd have to dig out the book to double check.

I really wouldnt worry too much. Either will work fine.

Although the turbo one had thicker flanges I believe to better match the exhaust manifold flanges.
So if your exhaust manifold has thinner flanges and a normal intake clears it, it may suit better.

Or I'm sure I remember something along those lines.

I use the Std Metro one as nothing else would fit with my large bore Matty exhaust manifold.

great infos, many thanks.

@Shane, I checked the CFM of MG Metro inlet in Vizard's book. Looks very good with 145. But couldn't find the CFM for the turbo one.

Flange thickness is a good point, my fusion fabs flange is about 9,8mm thick.
Is the MG Metro flange about 1mm thinner?

I used to run a turbo inlet manifold with a Mirage manifold years ago the I had to thin the inlet flanges to match those of the Mirage exhaust. Im not sure the thickness of flange Matt uses on his though.

I’ve tested all the above manifolds on my flowbench, the details are on my FB page somewhere.
In terms of airflow the standard turbo one is awful. The MG one is good, but the best I’ve tested for a single HIF44 is the cast Maniflow one, though with a bit of work all can be improved upon.

A little turbulence in the standard one probably does no harm though. Ultimately it is in no way a restriction to making power compared to the cylinder heads.

But just use whatever fits easiest with whatever is being built.

I found it a massive restriction. Fitted to one of my heads it limited airflow compared to when the head was tested on its own.
The manifold wasn’t just slightly turbulent either, it roared like a hurricane!
When flowing with the Maniflow the head flowed its full potential.

How much power difference was there swapping the manifolds at same boost ? Or did boost change with the swap ?
