hello all

had my mg metro turbo engine strip 3rd gear and the lay gear so took the engine out and stripped and rebuilt the gear box.

while the engine was out a decided to remove the head and replace all the seals in the engine.

reground the valves and rebuilt the engine.

stripped the turbo as it had play in the bearing and fitted a service kit (all good)

after refitting the engine, i have everything connected apart from the pipe from the plenam to the radiator and back to the turbo with the dump valve in it.

engine will crank and somtimes fire

have good spark with electronic points.

if i restrict the air going into the plenam i can get it to run but it eventually bogs down and stalls.

whats the best cause of action to oget it to run so it can be timmed up please.

boost is on 0
plenty of fuel preasure
pulling my hair out at the moment so have walked away from it lol

Are you using the correct gasket between the plenum and carb? IE no holes blocked/covered by the gasket.

during the rebuild there was no need to remove the plenam from the carb so yes m8 all good.
im going on holiday next friday to the grand tour (devon).

so will try to get some pics of the engine after that.

its got me stumped as ran fine before removal.

Timing double checked, both cam and ignition?
When you say "loads of fuel pressure" have you checked with a gauge between the regulator and the carb? Should be 4.5 PSI.

If it runs when you restrict the air going in, it sounds like the mixture is set up too weak.
