Hi guys,

My current 2-box exhaust had it's best days and I want to replace it.
To me the current system seems self made with standard exhaust parts.
My estate has a MG Metro-turbo engine but is not highly tuned.
What parts do I need to fit my Estate? It must NOT be noisy.
RC40 1,75" ?

Cheers
Harold

A few pics from the current exhaust.
Seems custom/home made.

Somewhere around Swindon

I have only ever had Playmini and Maniflow on my cars. Both are great but prefer Playmini to be honest, everyone of them has fitted faultlessly and if they are still making them that would be my choice.

With regards to noise i could not say, i have always gone with single box large bore systems but i suspect small bore twin box systems are pretty much the same when i comes to noise.

I have a playmini system. They do a specific LWB back box

Thanks Wolfie,

Will 2" be good for a none-tuned mg-metro engine?
I do want a 2-box system to keep the noise down.

As I understood from minispares, for a turbo/estate/2" there is nothing off the shelf that fits plug and play.

@Hazpalmer, what do you mean with LWB?

LWB = long wheel base, aka pickup , traveler and estate.

Ive got a maniflow on mine with the smaller back box no mid box as the turbo keeps it quiet

I e-mailed Maniflow for a solution, got a reply, but communication goes very slow….
I’ll be patient, hopefully they can make a plug and play set.

I ran a Maniflow twin box LWB on my Estate and it fitted really well. On my Turbo I run a RC40 twin box and its nice and quite. Because you have the turbo flexi joint you can cut the pipe to the required lenght and than you just have to extend the rear if you use a standard exhaust.

@viz139: I think the downpipe is 2" diameter? At he Maniflow website I don't see a full 2" 2 box system for LWB, only a 1 3/4"
What did you have?

Ring Maniflow they are far better communicating over the phone. Tell them what youre after and they will make you something to your requirements. they did for me.

I know Maniflow do a large 2" turbo downpipe but I think the standard one is 1 3/4". Its a while since I did it but I'm pretty sure the RC40 went straight on.

I made some more pictures.
The downpipe seems not 2” but smaller.
The exhaust seems welded to the downpipe.
Not happy with that….

I’ve measured the bend from the downpipe and it seems even less than 1,75”. Maybe in the bend is not the best place to measure….
It’s pretty rusty too, maybe it’s good plan to place an entire new exhaust, including downpipe.
I looked up from below and see that the top clamp is hard to reach.
What’s the best way to reach for it? First to loosen this one, later to place a new one.

It is a pain, no way around that. I wrap my arm in cling film to reduce the cuts, abrasion and exhaust wrap irritation. Depending how it's oriented you might need to remove stuff from engine to attack from above, or lay on your back and struggle.

Looks to be rusty, soak it with WD40 first and hope it comes off cleanly.

New one, few tricks here:

- match the exhaust and turbo outlet sizes for better sealing to avoid using sealant
- weld the bolts into one half of the clamp
- use long brass manifold nuts

Good luck!

Maniflow can make a full 2” 2 box system including new turbo downpipe.
In mild steel or stainless (only outside?)
Downpipe only available in mild steel.
Will a larger 2” system fit nicely near the shifter?
Will a stainless system be louder than a mild steel one?
It must not be loud.
What’s your opinion?

I went for a custom full stainless 2.25" system with an ST3 manifold. All done by Fusion Fabrications.

Looking good.
What is the sound like? Not (too) loud?

What’s your opinion on a stainless 2 box 2” Maniflow exhaust soundwise?
Is it louder than a 2” steel one?
I prefer stainless, but as said before, it must not be loud.

Cheers
