Hi Guys

i know i am going to get shot for asking this i am wanting to build an rts clutch setup, i have searched around here in Australia but these are not common nor does anyone want to do one. Before i pull the trigger on parts does this seem a reasonable shopping list?

1 x https://www.med-engineering.co.uk/clutch-as...-light-flywheel

2x verto clutch covers http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/C-AEG485.aspx

1x Clutch plate https://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/...k%20to%20search

1 x centre boss https://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/...k%20to%20search

The gearbox which is an A+ has been rebuild (MED straight cut / ATB / Drop gears / pinon brace etc) i believe my covers are pre-verto (long arm) can i simply change arms or is there another option i should consider? do i need other cases?

https://www.med-engineering.co.uk/clutch-as...erto-clutch-arm

I have a large journal 1100s crank i am assuming i need the centre boss
https://www.med-engineering.co.uk/clutch-as...o-clutch-centre

Obviously i will need to balance with the cranks and a new starter motor. open to suggestions and the best options out there based on your experience

Hi,
The first I built I used a turbo cover and one of the uprated (as per your link) and it made for a heavy pedal (also greater load on the thrusts), I revised it with two used 998 covers and it was much lighter.
Med flywheel is the same as I used, as is the centre boss.
Clutch arm (with correct slave cylinder), plunger and release bearing will need to be replaced for Verto items, you'll also nee the "top hat" that engages between the trust bearing and clutch cover.

I have to confess I never looked for new, after purchasing a new turbo and an uprated cover I didn't want the experiment of using two 998 covers to be a costly one.
There are a few historic build threads on here where members were pushing substantial power used them without issue.
Thanks
Shane

I'll ask a couple of the hoarders I know, someone is bound to have a stock squirreled away

Really appreciate that, obviously happy to pay if one comes up. I was messaging Cole from classic mini DIY he said his rts is very tough to push in which used the same covers as i posted earlier so i am assuming i am after two 998 verto covers (assuming softer springs). Verto is not common like the pre verto over here

My engine builder Graham https://russellengineering.com.au/ who is porting the head and doing the machining is not a fan of the verto setup and believed preverto if setup correctly should be up to the task ?

As i said earlier these are not common over here and neither are turbo builds i am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions

cheers Jason

The pre verto set up is more than up to the task, but if your aiming for big HP you'd be looking at using a grey diaphragm.
The issue then lies in the force exerted on the crank thrusts, the RTS offers greater clamping force with less load on the thrust washers and generally gives a lighter pedal feel as icing on the cake, a grey diaphragm gives an exceptionally heavy pedal and can be unpleasant in a road car / traffic.
I believe Robert did share some figures in his original RTS musings post?

No joy on NOS 998 covers from my local scroungers.

You linked above to the uprated cover, maybe the normal one is an option? (https://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/GCC679.aspx)

Or, as you say, pre-verto. I run pre-verto happily, depends on your target HP as Shane mentioned. The RTS has held some serious power over the years
