Hello and welcome...

Lifting engines out is a pain, I had to get one out the back of my metro shed this weekend, what a nightmare in the rain!

An intercooler is an air-to-air radiator. Think of a normal car radiator as an water-to-air radiator and your thinking on the right lines. The air coming out of a turbocharger is hot die to the fact that the compression of the air is not 100% efficient, and its this inefficiency that creates heat instead of pressure. Engines do not like hot air - it's less dense, so there are less oxygen molucles in the same space. An intercooler drops the tempreture of the air exiting the turbo before it enters the engine.

Hope that answers your question!

Alex
