Could someone please explain to me how the connections between the manifold, crankcase breathers and wastegate actuator are arranged as I am missing some parts.

What I do have is:

A red plastic module which I assume from studying engine bay photos (my favourite pastime) of the ERA turbo, must be a seperator to prevent fuel air mixture entering the crankcase?

The boost solenoid itself I have - Does it have tubing both sides or just to the wastegate line.

Other than this I have no tubing or connector for the manifold and I can't work out from engine bay pictures.

If someone could help with a photo, digram or description I would be very grateful.

Many Thanks.

Ivan

Hello and welcome (I think thats the third time I've typed that TODAY!!!)

Good user name for working on minis :p

The Red valve is part of the emmisons stuff and can be happily junked, and the engine breathers vented to air!

Not sure about the boost solinoid... i threw mine in the bin and use a bleed vlave.

You need a connection from the plenum to the fuel pressure
From the plenum to the wasegate, either via a bleed valve or (probably) the soliniod.

This link has some more useful info on it!

Thanks Alex -

I can't remember where I read it but I was under the impression that the manifold was connected to the crankcase breathers to pressurise the other side (crank side) of the pistons and prevent a pressure imbalance that might otherwise force charge past the piston rings. That's why I thought the red thing might be to keep the fuel on the manifold side.

I've got the plenum connected to the fuel pressure regulator, ECU and boost guage and could probably plumb in the solenoid and actuator on the same line but this would still leave the tapped hole in my manifold - any idea what should be connected here? In the ERA engine bay photos (http://www.wriva.com/mini/R1024/Engine.JPG) I'm seeing at least two pipes exiting.

Cheers.

Its for emissions only... don't worry about it *happy*

If your talking about the centre of the inlet manifold... this is where most minis connect in a brake servo vaccum line... but thats not what happens on an era so I'm gonna have to ask a question now!!!

I would personally leave out the ECU and the soliniod... all it does it cut down the boost in the mid range, so you'll get an instant performance increase without it! It also makes pumping easier.

One point to note is that you do not want to run lots of items off the same plenum/manifold outlets... the signals will get confused and the result wont be as good as it should be. So the boost gauge should have its own line, as should the vacume AR on the dizzy. The connections to the waste gate and fuel reg are easier as theres less choice on connections! Try and keep ur pumbing as clean and as sort as possible for best responce!
