Why? It's suspected the material was different between the 6232 and the 6581 - You don't have a different forging number for the same material and/or same forging moulds.

Has anyone out there got any knackered cranks with the above numbers? As if I can get a sample of both, I can take them to work and have them spark tested. This gives composition etc of the steel used, so would give a definative answer once and for all to this question of material specs.........

I was under the impression the turbo cranks where "treated" rather than high spec material!

That's what Viz said - but it seems mad to take out a different Forging number for a different heat-treatment process - if this was the case, you'd stamp/spark the number.

Anyone got any dud cranks - I'd love to know the metalurgical differences once and for all!

Yep it's just a tad little on the cam end main,so will prob use it rather than go -.010"

On job I do at work is a repair for dowty, looks a similar coating, when I prep th job its only about .002"/.003" thick so is ground with a diamond wheel to remove as a grit wheel won't touch it
