Today in a fit of keeness I decided to rebuild the roof on the "coal shed" out the back of my house. It has up until now been full of rubbish with the roof caved in, some clever person previously had roofed it with what looked like kitchen worktop, and pitch.

Ripped all that out, made some repairs to the 3x2" frame/joists, then re-roofed it in sterling board and felt. I don't think I have done a bad job of it for an amateur at such matters, however, to finish it off I need to flash between the brickwork of the house and the felt. I was fairly sure you could buy a roll of felt approx 8" wide for this very purpose, but have tried a few places this afternoon and drawn blank looks? So am I dreaming or does this stuff exist??

Tom , you are thinking of a product called "Flash Band" . as seen on most conservatories where they abutt the existing building , a poor substitute for lead flashing , but i suppose OK for the coal house, lol. get it at roofing suppliers ,
whatch out its sticky ,and it if folds on itself rhres no geting it appart,..

Excellent, thanks for that.

I want to do it on the cheap anyhow as I rent the house so don't want to spend much on doing things I can't take with me when I leave.

I have chased out the mortar to about 1.5" depth so if I can use something like that and then point it in hopefully will be OK.
