Update is that my life turned to shit so the cranks are both still sat having being cleaned up awaiting cutting up.

WANTED All your knackered crankshafts. The reason being; to test the material specs of the two different cranks, to get a definative answer to what the differences are? Want one off '6232' crank (CAM6232) and one off '6581' crank (CAM6581). Can be as knackered as you like, past final regrind, in half, bent as a banana, it doesn't matter. They are simply to use to spark test to see what the composition of the steel is. I work in a steelworks that specialises in 'engineering steels', meaning high alloy composition steels, mainly used for forging. We supply to companies such as X-Trac, Renault F1, and also into the aerospace market, for use in Aeroplane landing gear. Because of this, I can get the samples tested and find out composition. I will have a word with my metallurgy colleagues and see if they can also test surface hardness etc. Obviously, I don't want to pay for these knackered cranks, so you must be willing to donate them for the good of the TM community. Well I have spoken to a well respected source who told me the 6581's are the same material as 6232's but just heat treated.

Interested in the results if this did ever get carried out? Currently looking for a crank for engine build and would like a 6581, but be nice to know if it was in vain, or whether there is some truth behind this 'unicorn' crank.
