Is a CT scan dangerous?

Far more X-rays are involved in a CT scan than in ordinary X-rays, so doctors do not recommend CT scans without a good medical reason. Some patients may experience side effects due to allergic reactions to the liquid dye injected into the veins.

nice lol

I think they only inject the dye stuff for certain problems, usually circulatory or digestive system. I don't think they will inject it to look at your bones but I may be wrong.

you would have though that 12 weeks in a bright pink plaster cast would have sorted the bloody arm out

problem is they did not realise that the arm was broken for 4-5 weeks as i was on some serious painkillers for my spinal injuries, i had been pushing myself round in a wheelchair and trying to walk on crutches with a bloody broken arm :(

CT is Computer Tomography.
It basically means that they take lots of X-rays from different angles in order to genrate a 3 dimensional Computer Generated Image is the area in question.
My father-in-law has had several of these recently following a motorcycle accident.
He also had a bone scan.
That involves being injected with Radioactive material and being left for several hours for it to dissipate through your body before they do a detailed scan of the entire body to look for weak points in the bones.
On the plus side the electricity bills are cheaper at their house now that he glows in the dark!!
Shouldn't have thought you have a great deal to worry about Wolfie it's a routine procedure.

Ha

Finally something I actually know about cos I have been fixing CT scaners for 20 years, almost as long as they have been around. Yup all info is correct. The injection is a radio-opaque dye that "lights" blood vessels up and also will show the presence of a concentration of blood, Mostly not needed for bones but they may use it to see if the vessels around the bone are OK. If they do inject they will probably ask you strange questions like "are you allergic to seafood" as the iodine dyes are similar to shellfish and people usually react if they are allergic to shellfish, but its pretty rare.
CT gives slice pictures, the thinner the better then they can reconstruct the images as a 3D picture. Not a big long tube like MR and not as noisy more of a doughnut so most people do not get scared and its over in a flash if its a newer one.

Here are some pics, first one is the skin and then they can "melt away the tissues. third one is a knee.

ct scan was easy peasy apart from the laying dead still

you lay on a bench that slids you back though what looks like a massive polo

results in 4 weeks

I've just com back from X-ray due to a slightly loss of grip on the front wheel of my motorcycle as well. They found nothing, CT-next :)

It seems as motorcycles really are dangerous.
