ok so as it was pissing it down this morning i voted against working on the exterior of the mini and thought i'd get on with a job i could do inside. So i started making my dash, i followed these plans

probably after a bit more time than it should have taken me to notice *blush* i realised there was a contradiction in the middle of the diagram. ... It says between 530 and 560 (so 30mm) there should be a drop from 175mm - 172mm (shallow for ash tray?) which when you add together both sides (2x30mm) that should be 60mm, however, he has put 80mm. So he has either added 2x30mm incorrectly, or has made a mistake with the lengths on the diagram (should be 520 - 560?)

any of you guys know if there is actually any need for this 3mm drop? i cant work it out as the ashtray seems to me to be tucked well out of the way on the top dash rail? Unfortunately i dont have one to hand to check a) the length of the ash tray. and b) if there is a need for it.

If anyone can clear these issues up for me i would be very grateful :)

the dip is needed,i think its because theres a dip on the upper rail

i followed this diagram and it came out good on my old car

i put a 1"x 0.5" batton of wood along the top and bottom rails and then screwed it to that

hmm, ok, so it has been established the dip is needed, now i just need to know if its 60mm or 80mm in total?
although if you say there is a dip in the upper rail, i guess i'll be able to measure that next time i remove the cover off the shell

oh, it will be wise to cut the whole thing a bit bigger and trim down to suit as it will vary from car to car, then you can get a perfect fit
