Are they needed structurally,my shelf has been well chopped up for speakers, and the seat back don't fix to the car sides.

Is it ok to chop it all out,or is there a regulation about having a fuel cell in the car(no bulkhead) for road or track

fuel cell needs to have a firewall between you and it, this is the seat back :) as is the same for the engine bay, (bulkhead) i think you could get around it by perhaps boxing it in, but would consider putting a brace bar from shocker to shocker on the back *wink* that is for construction and use regs....as per MSA i believe they are the same, they are in rally x anyway, i had a 4 gallon tank in the engine bay and all holes etc in the firewall had to be blocked or welded up, you really dont want to be upside down with fuel splashed all over you bro (unless u is a pyromaniac dude )

This fire wall then,do it have to be steel or will alloy be ok.

My fuel cell is alloy appox 12" square,so would a smaller light wieght boot area be ok

rite i read me msa book (how sad) if your fuel cell is a pucker one ie filled with foam you dont need any firewall. if not what you do is cut out the back as planned and wait for it check this loop hole ! tyou either replace the back firewall with a carbon plate of fibreglass, so you could make a fibreglass pannel to replace it with....alternate box it in bro if you go plan b what i would do is make a mould out of metal so it fits over your tank, then re create it in fibreglass, then making sure you have access to the filler cap (like DER !!!) place the box over the tank and fill the gap between tank and box with non flameable foam (like insulating foam) voila you got a protected light weight fuel cell ! it must be secure though bolted down.

i normally cut out the back seat totally then put alloy sheet up to rear parcel shelf i leave the shelf in to help reeinforce the "C" pillars (back pillars) but most my stuff has been auto x / rally x so rigidity has been a must *wink* a good idea would be like you say cut away half of the back plate, remove the seat pan completely then perspex the gap as apposed to alloy on the back plate (a lil bit lighter and a bit bling too means you can see what ya doing and lets more light into the boot area......so you can see what ya doing whilst refuling etc :)...........to be super bling you cound cut circular holes in the perspex to lighten further lol ) www.plastics4performance.co.uk you could even get it in poly carbonate, it dunt crank and is shotgun proof too psml

take some pics when its done bro !

I had two speakers in my rear seat thing in mine, but wish i hadnt done it. Afterwords someone told me how easy it would be for a fire to burst through the speaker cones compares to a metal barrier.

lol hopefully dangerous will never have that problem having a pucker foam filled tank *wink* but in road going minis it is so easy for the tank to get ruptured as it is so close to the outer wing.
