Hi all, to turbo or not to turbo that is the question?
Mr benross has had my arm up my back for some time now trying to convert me over to a turbo, having read the replies in my camshaft link it is now making a lot of sense but I am still not 100% sure.
If I build my unit with a phase 2 camshaft in it, what will it run like in a NA engine? Or is there a cam (maybe the SW5) that will run ok in either?
The head is not a problem I am having a benross head, I have used them in the past and I can fully recommend them.
Will the T2 fit without modifying the bulkhead?
The pistons that I bought when I had my block rebored are stamped with the following numbers AT6 PO6 21251 +0.060 not sure if these will be ok with turbo,
I am sure this link will put a smile on bens face,
Hope you guys can help

Thanks benny

I do beleve we are on the eve of destruction

massive diff between n/a and turbo you can get more bananas for less out of a turbo than you would for a n/a, infact to get a n/a to run over 140 bhp you are going to be spending alot of money on big carbs, longman heads etc etc i was foolish enough to get into marks mini, he has spent a similar amount on his engine to what i did for n/a and he has got twice the bhp and probably a lil bit more reliability................although bodge it racing hmmmmmm *wink* jus kiddin mate

Benny what power are you aiming for?

If you want say 80bhp this is easily achieveable with a reasonable spec normally aspirated 1275cc engine.

However, if you want 100bhp or more, you now have 2 choices, either a cammy highly strung engine, that will be a pig to start, a pig in traffic, and will need to be revved hard to make it go well.

The other choice is a standard spec turbo motor, that will start, idle, pull well from low medium revs, and also give you a good balance of power and torque.

The choice you have to make yourself, but those are an outline of some things to think about.

This exact reasoning was what made me choose to go down the turbo route, as previous 1380 engines on webers with big cam profiles etc were just a pain in the arse.
