Ok i never ever done a track day, i still have my nat b race licence.......
do i need a race licence ?
is there scruteneering do i need to fit cut offs and do i need certain size extinguisher ? are the regs as per MSA ?
do i need to wear my proban suit and helmet ?
i heard some shitty rumour that you can only overtake in certain spots, is this true (or can i go balls out and pass where i want)

reason being, if track days are fun and you can go hard around the track, i will go down that avenue, if not then i will make my car more road going and forget track days...my wife would divorce me if i go back into motorsport as all :(

You do not need a race license. Some circuits insist you take your road license with you, others do not.
There is no scrutineering. The general advice is that your car must either hold an MOT or "be capable" of passing MSA scrutineering. However it is never checked or enforced where I have been.
You need to wear a helmet and clothes that cover your limbs, e.g. long sleeve t-shirt and long trousers not shorts. But if you have a proban suit then that is fine to wear.

The rumour that you can only overtake in certain places is true. This is done due to the differing levels of driver and vehicle capabilities and experience. The aim is to make sure there is no car-to-car contact, as this is the usual cause of big accidents, and obviously if you drive into someone else, they are not going to be best pleased. If you go flying past an inexperienced driver round a bend, they might panic and change line and force you off track, or hit your car causing you to spin etc. Equally, if some guy in a single seater overtakes you and then stands on the anchors in front of you, he is going to stop far quicker than you can, again putting you in trouble.
Occasionally it can be frustrating if you are behind a car that is cornering slowly but can piss off down the straights, but when he/she does let you past, it is satisfying to see how much ground you can make on them.
Although it is non-competitive, I have had some great dices on track days, when you drop on some other cars lapping at similar speed to you it is very good fun.

However, despite all that, you can still go hard round the track, I certainly do and anyone that has ridden with me on track will vouch for that I am sure. (Neil8p, any comments *wink* )

yeh i thought so..... just thought maybe organisers would time people early on and then put you in respective heats to keep the flow but then that would be racing lol not that i am saying i am fast, as far as i am concerned i could be the jam car lol ! just thought i would clear that up now so not to seem totally arogant psml
