Word to the wise - You either will or Won't get hammered on import duy.
You'll either pay £0, £25 or approx £68 (VAT ontop of the £25).

Just letting you know...

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but..

just been out bid on this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...82316&rd=1&rd=1

Is there anywhere else apart from ebay you can get these for reasonable price?

There are some on ebay.com, but Im a bit hesitant for the reasons Dave outlined above..

just wary of the import duty/tax etc

has anyone here ordered one from the US? if so, did customs pick up on it? and where did you get it from?

Ask Jim, Iain, Tom, and whoever else I've shipped one over for if they had any problems with Duty.

Then drop me a PM.

the customs thing is a funny one,

sometimes it gets through sometimes not... I think it depends a lot on what route it takes, for example i reckon if it passes through a main airport (london, amsterdam ect) then it will get picked up, kind of a knock on effect due to terrorism.

Also whats in the package may make a difference, bear in mind they will probably x ray it to see what it is and if it looks dangerous/expensive then they'll pull it,

I have ordered things like guitar parts from the US, small single parts tend to get through (pickups, bridges ect), parts that look like they are worth something like a guitar necks or bodys (usually worth less!) tend not to. My megasquirt got pulled to when i ordered that, they probably wondered what the hell a kit of components was, could look like a bob I guess.

Something like a AEM gauge i'd think your a bit more likely to get away with, especially if you can get it marked up as worth less than it really is, I think customs are starting to get a bit wise to the "GIFT" trick and also there is a value limit on a gift now, about £20 IIRC.

also a lot of companys will refuse to mark anything gift which is understandable as its there arse on the line.

Emailed the bloke running the ebay auction in the states, hes wrapping it up as a christmas present for me which is good of him.

Hopefully should be enough, but even of they do get me for the duty it should still come in at a shade under £200 in total so still ok value imo..
