Hi, i am trying to find out for definate what the engine sitting in my garage is (next to the turbo one that is) so that i can whack it on e-bay and hopefully make a little money out of it.

it had these letters/numbers stamped on the ....

- left - 05k (i think)
- middle - MOWOG167
- right - 12g1279

anyone know where i can find out what it is? or identify those numbers? or know if i even got the right ones to check?

for the 65th time this month, thanks in advance for any help guys :)

Casting numbers don't mean a great deal to most people, it is the engine number that is far more useful.

where do i find that? is it on a little "shelf" just below the head? and if so, is it just pressed on/stuck on etc? as i have a big blank area right there

Its held on by 2 rivets.

Sounds like its gone missing then.

From the casting number is sounds like it is an A rather than an A+, 12g numbers are earlier A numbers, all the A+ stuff went over to CAM numbers.

i typed 12G1279 into google and it came up with a thread from mini mania, and apparently it is a 1275 A series (so you were right about it not being A +)

any idea what i should put it on ebay for? comes with 12g940 head and a 286 cam, could throw in LCB exhaust and alloy inlet manifold too.

i also have twin hs6 carbs with k&N filters but not the correct inlet manifold.

think i paid (off the top of my head)

80 for the engine
30 for the manifold and the lcb
40 for the carbs and filters?

am i likely to get that back or should i just bung it on ebay with no reserve and hope for the best? :)

any of this stuff useful to anyone?

i would keep it mate as blocks are getting hard to find, a a series is better than no series at all.

yep agree with hogster especially if its a series and not a+ good as a backup , or tweaked motor as you decide to go up in bhp eventually i normally keep 1 ready built block and 3 bare ones force of habbit after racing em i guess, i binned 6 1275 A+ complete blocks last month wish i had kept the cranks etc now though doe !!!
