Yep I've got a fiberglass front, I got it from Mini Spare and it's fine.

However, there are advantages and disadvantages to having one, namely:

+Saves loads of weight
+doesn't rust
+looks cool when you open it
+ makes getting the engine out easy.
but
+if it hasen't got a seperate bonnet it is a pain in the arse
+If you fit one its advisable/necessary to solidly mount the front subframe and some strengthening bars (all available from Mini Spares)

That's all I can think of

I'd advise a steel removable front with opening bonnet *wink*
both my mini's are done like this and it is great quick and easy as normal to check the oil etc
but in 15 minute's and the front is off with full access *smiley*

The rust problems associated with a normal front are usually build up and lack of access to the relavent areas. Id recommend a steel flip front as they look better and its harder to tell the car has one fitted. Rust isnt a problems as it can cleaned and protected well in the areas that matter as access is vastly improved. (back of a-panels, under scuttle etc.) *happy*

I have a full steel flip and removabel front.

It is very useful. Could have done with a removable bonnet but it is idea for working on the engine.

I can email you some piccies if you want.

Cheers

i have a steel flip front too, but im going back to a normal front, i.e weld the outer wings in place, no inner wings and a removable bonnet, its been nice having the flip front as other mini owners are usually impressed by it, but i think it will be easier to do oil checks etc with just a removeable bonnet and removeable grille.

i had a flip front and all i have to say about it is...

its costing me about ?300 to get a metal one welded on! i hated it with a passion. granted it did make life easyer when working on the car butt he state the engine got in with no inner wings was just amazing and to check the oil took me 10 mins. and it started to sag and fit verry badly it looked terible by the time it got to the bodyshop, and then my A-pannel fell off, lol

just my opinion, but i have the old one piece forsale if you do decide to go for it:)

Very good to have a flip front. It is best to have a removable bonnet as it is a pain checkin the engine oil etc. Even worse when you think you have a problem and ya sat on the hard shoulder of tha M6!!

ive got a fibreglass front and would like to have a steel one as said previously there will still rust as per normal fronts.

mine only takes a minute to get off, using big connecters for the lights and indicators. engine access is supurb no more bad backs and banging you head on the bonnett.

but it doesnt fit as good as the steel fronts but its a small price to pay and depend what you are after.

and after all each to there own.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

i like my flip front very much!
it makes easy to work on the engine. but it is good to keep removabel bonnet for quick oil check....

Are the ones with the "a "panels on them any good?? I used to have a normal one years ago and didn't like the join and cutting the arches in half.
May need one as intercooler to big to go between inner wings*tongue*

thats were ive got to fit mine, the one small small problem with flip fronts is you tend to have physicaly less room in the front area of the engine as you have to be carefull nothing fouls on the front when you close it unlike a normal front you can jam stuff in as you only have to close the bonnet (if that makes sense).
but you will gain room if you remove the inner wings but remember to put some gauze the wheel side of any cooler ect as stones will soon wreck the coolers.

Pooh the link has stopped working :( has anyone got a copy of it?

Only dug up this post as a chap in my local club was after some info on how to fit a flip front and this was the best guide I've ever seen.
