Just been talking iain at dinner and he is sure he remembers reading something somewhere about not running the engine with coolant in for the first couple of minutes after you've fitted a new head gasket.

Has anyone else heard anything similar? thought it would be helpful as a general enquiry?

cheers!

I have heard of this... but I disagree its a good idea!

All you do it creat very local hot spot and stress the head, which although not a great problem on A-series as the head is cast, its not a good idea...

You can get exactly the same effect but filling the cooling system and running the engine up to full temp and the re-torquing the head IMO.

Not running water in a water jacket to make sealing a head gasket better of course...

*laughing*

Ok, i could have been a little clearer!

You and me both where dave!!!

Still if anyone else has worked on a project costing inexcess of ?400,000 in the last two year looking at engine thermal management, particularly coolant flow and warm up cycles then I am sure they deserve to be shot down too *tongue*
