thanks iain, for the link, i am in the states and am asking this question for a friends car and also my knowledge. car has a 80's 1275 mg metro turbo, the model with ecu, he blew the headgasket and when we took the engine apart one of the pistons is cracked. he wants to do a simple rebuild, no rebore, and i need to know if anyone has 1, or a set of standard pistons for sale? since they never sold these in the states parts and info are hard to come buy, does anyone know if there are other pistons from different cars that would fit this application? or a part number from an american supplier? thanks for the help, jim oh, and one other question, sorry if it sounds stupid, on another thread on this board i keep seeing the term service the engine every 3k miles. is this term referring to oil change or something else. thanks

hello and welcome...

You really need to inspect the engine bores for wear, more than a couple of hou of ware and its rebore time. The A-series really needs good bores to make power.

Service interval is oil/filter/ and then you can do plugs/rotor arm etc as needed.

thanks alex, i understand the service intervals, i change oil every 3k anyway, and also thanks karl, i use the minimania site but there is not a lot of parts for turbos overhere and also not very much knowledge of them, i own several mgs so i also went on the mg owners bbs site and poste dunder the metro montego board, no one wanted to help out since the engine was not going back in a metro!!! so back to my question, i checked with JE pistions in california and they must be custom ordered and sized, my friend does not want to go that route so i need to know if someone has these in stock that could be ordered off the shelf? thanks, jim

Did J&E Pistons give you an idea of price ?? because there very high quality and i'd buy them over anything else.

they did Karl , it was like $650 plus shipping but i talked with the local sport compact shop whos owner i know and he said he could get them for me at 20% less, so a little more affordable. i had the impression from other posts i read that these were an instock item, it seems they are custom made one offs and i would need to send them a piston, which is surprising, i would think it tobe much more efficent to make a mold and run these many at a time. but than that would make too much sense, anyway my friend wants to go to hone the cylinders and rering route so i am still trying to help him find 1 piston, got one? thanks, jim

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

$650 is very cheap for a set of custom pistons, even better if there is 20% discount on that!!!

Ill look through my spares jim and see if i have a standard piston somewhere. *happy*
