Yes i have seen it done on Mirage's pistons that are going into his engine. Not sure on how effective it will be, but seems to make sense on the pistons. Not so sure on the cylinder head front!!

I think it must be smaltiriva type coating, that literally comes out of a spray can and cures in an oven at 150c

The stuff we do at work for aerospace comes out of a high energy plasma torch, and is cured in a pure argon furnace at approx 1150c

I had my head coated (exhaust ports, chambers, valve heads), and just got the pistons and bearings back Friday from coating. Mains, big ends, thrust, and piston skirts got slick coatings, and the piston tops got heat reflective. How much difference will it make? I don't know. But I'm pretty sure there are some advantages. Keeping the heat in the exhaust gases will help the engine run cooler and keep the gas hot to the turbo, making for a greater differential between pre-turbo and post-turbo. That should translate to power.

I don't know that I'd let this guy on eBay touch my stuff (looks a bit sloppy on the workmanship, and he doesn't strike me as overly educated).

I'll have pics up on my site of the latest parts, if anyone is interested. The head coatings are already there (www.drjing.com).
