right i got my engine a while ago, did compression test and cylinder 3 was verry poor (i could fart higher pressures (i imagine so anyway i never tested this*tongue*)) but other 3 were fine. so head came off and i was planning on exchanging it for a slightly modded one from morespeed but now that money is in much shortness i cant afford to. i have still got an N/A MG metro head that came off my old 1 litre wich is mint and i know was perfect i beleive it had new seals and seats etc not long ago before i bought the 1 litre. now the question.
should i try and sort the turbo head or is the NA MG ones ok as it is or is this the reason the MG had a higher CR? if i use it should i look at getting a little taken out of the chambers first? only planning standard boost for now and then i can look at a morespeed head when money will allow me to go further but i need to know if it is going to be safe, or can i take some out on my own without too much trouble?

thanks, Dan

The first turbo conversion i did used a 36/29 MG head. I used the standard valves, ported the throats and found 26cc's in the chamber easily. All done i the vice with a flex attachement on an elarctric drill.

The engine was very good, mildly tuned and did many many trouble free miles.

Put old valves in place of your decent one.

Use an old head gasket as a template so you dont grind beyond the fire ring, leave the gasket in situe held in with a few bolt so when the grinder flies out over the head face it causes mininal damage.

Match the exhaust port only to the ex gasket size.

did you say that pot 3 had no compression, is it not worth checking that before doing heads ?
or have i miss understood ya mate ? also the valves on the 998 would be smaller i would imagine....

thanks for the tips jon i will do that.
i found nothing on google of any help but a few threads on here have been good.

my first turbo (dont know your name!) the head is off my old 1040cc engine it was pocketed and had an MG head on :)
when i took the head off i filled the cylinders with petrol and it stayed there so i blame the head for leaking and not the cylinders:)

thanks, any more tips would be appriciated too and i will try and take pics and help others.

cheers, Dan

Personally I would look into pot three of your proper turbo motor first off. It may be that it just needs a couple of seats re-cutting and then the valves grinding and lapping back in.
If that is the case it is easy and cheap enough to sort it out.
