Hi

A bit like the guy on the other post, i thought that putting a Turbo engine in would be quite easy, but the more i read the more terrified i get. I have yet another question (and i doubt it will be my last), I have had a bit of a look at my Turbo today (had the engine stripped down a while, but have been concentrating efforts on bodywork) and it seems quite difficult to turn the turbine, i can just about move it by hand, it turns quite easily with a rachet, is this normal or should it rotate easier than this. Also had the micrometer on the shaft and there is no end float movement.
Sorry for the essay.

you should be able to turn the shaft easily with your fingures but this is somtimes abit difficult when only one end is open if not try removing the exhaust elbow and feel it with both ends you should have no or little play in the shaft and it should turn soomtly *wink*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Thanks for the responce guys. The shaft is difficult to move, but is smooth when it does, just feels a little tight. I don't think it's run for a couple of years. Thanks for the offer Iain i will deffo take you up on it one day, have you had any engine work done local or could you recommend someone. Cheers again.

pour some oil into the drain tube and try to get it to flow to the bearings.. they might just be dry...

See if that cures it... if not its probably new turbo time :(

Im having my engine machining done at MBE in lincoln but building the engine myself. He's very good so ive been told and also very well priced.

A while back i got a quote on a turbo short engine, ?650 including the omega pistons built.

I know one lad who had his engine sorted there and he was very good.

It basically included a rebuild of the short block, rebrind, rebore, new cam bearings, new timing chain all fully built up with new mains, big ends, pistons fitted....

Basically as anyone would build up a newly machined short engine.

He can do anything you like to what stage you want. Bits at a time, whatever. Hes a nice bloke.

Ill get you his number if you like.
