Has anyone any expirience of fitting a boot pop solenoid to a smoothed off boot? I have seen kits that claim to be universal, but they are fairly expensive when compared to what you can buy a solenoid for on Ebay.
Would a door/boot pop or central locking solenoid do the job and what additional parts would be required to complete a job like this?

can you not fabricate a bonnet latch'n'cable mechanism? My flip front will be stealth latched by a pair of Laguna bonnet latches, they are really slim.

I prefer the solenoid ide as that saves me playing with cable tension etc. and also leaves the option of a remote control in conjunction with central locking at a later stage...

my boots on a boot catch off an old honda acord with a striker pin on the bootlid, it was a bit off a pig to get to seal water tight as theres not that pressure as there is with the origanal twist shut lock. i thought about putting a solinod on but i thought if the battery went dead id be buggered

my doors have been delocked and de-handled and i'm gonna be running remote door poppers. I am going to be extra screwed if my battery dies :p
i have devised a little safe guard though as you get manual buttons to mount somewhere on the car (incase of remote failure?) and i thought about hooking them up to a seperate little battery so even if my actual battery dies i'll still be able to get into the car? :)

I agree with the water tight seel on the boot, also (snowfruit) from looking at theplan for your car how do you plan to do-away with the external boot hinges? i looked into it but decided against it as you would loose the seal structure. As for mounting door poppers i **think**you have to cut away some of the door and make a small pocket for the solinoid to sit in, as long as the structure is solid you should be fine.

The manual buttons you talk about are ok but are only ment to ne mouned on the inside of the car. As these systems have no lock it just mean some little chav can push the button and get in your car

in the event of power loss you could mount a jumping point on the car somewhere. I am placing mine under the bonnet

I was going to put them in the engine bay (which will be under locked bonnet pins) and within their own discreet box (which could also have a lock) so hopefully they will be pretty safe, and not inside the car which would defeat the point of having them as i wouldnt need them if i was inside *happy**happy**happy*

For the hinges I am planning on getting some custom internal hinges made up to fit inside the boot. I guess then it is a case of making sure they close tightly enough to maintain the seal and the same with the lock.

I am thinking about dehandling the doors - using remote control poppers and the idea of putting failsafe switches under a locked bonnet makes perfect sense to me
