As some of you know I have just recently bought an MG Metro turbo race car. I took it out for a track/test day at Oulton Park, a fantastic circuit!.

The basic spec of the car is a mildly tuned A series, flowed head, forged rockers,Mg metro cam, flowed manifold,K&N filter,Aldon tailored dizzy and luminition optronic ignition.Challenge ratio SCCR gear set,1.1 SC drops, LSD and a 3.9 A standard T3 turbo is retained and limited to 15 thou of actuator movement at 5psi, equating in circa (no intercooler)8psi on my gauge at full boost. RELIABLE!

The running gear is complemented with Track spax shocks(over a grands worth!)thicker challenge anti roll bars and well thought out suspension geometry, all weighing in at 760KG before the driver.

I was in no rush to et out as I wantd the track to dry and loose it’s greasyness, just having bought the thing I did’nt fancy a moment on the first lap!

I ventured out at 10.30 for a few laps to re-familiarise my self with the track and get a feel for the car. The circuit was still very slippery so I took it a 3 quarter pace.

By 12 noon the track was very grippy and having experimented with tyre pressures I found I had a car that was very firm footed and great brakes although with a lot less power than I am used to.

The car (and driver) were soon putting in some respectable lap times, each lap felt quicker and smoother, practice makes perfect.

I received maybe a dozen complements from other track users and an Oulton Park race instructor, all basically saying the same thing that the car was untouchable through the bends.

The car is one of the best handling and sure footed cars I ever driven, when the back end steps out it seems to warn you in advance and understeer is virtually non existant.

With some unofficial lap timing I have found I am running at near class lap record times so with some fine tuning dedication and practice (and money!) I hope to be on the pace for next years season in competition.

All in all a fantastic day on a fantastic circuit .

On the power stakes i can do very little due to strict regulations which i have to stick to. I ca see gains with weight loss. Combined myself and the car are 865KG with a car/driver with the limit being 825KG.

40KG is a heavy boot full of shopping.

Vegard, i'll let you know as soon as the dates are issued.
