Another topic i've touched on before but i want to get it sorted over the winter.

If i replaced everygaskets and seals etc in and around the carb, what else would stop it from going out of tune so dame fast!

I can't think of what else to do....and no there are NO air leaks any where.

mr hogster was showing me a little trick with the carb where you weld a little part (or bolt) which stops the needle moving out of setting or something like that?
(sorry rich i was listening i was just baffled :))
you could ask him although i have a sneaking feeling you may have already done this seeing as you roll in the same circle or whatever :)

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

IMO*wink*

its usually not the carb which goes out of tune mat if you have fully serviced it correctley.

the usuall things to wear on the carb are..... butterfly spindle, JET & needle but this takes many miles some what say 15 k+ as you know.

its all those other parts which wear out on the engine
especially your motor producing lots of power!

(ie) .....valve guids, rings, valve seats, air cleaner, bearings, cam followers....etc....etc.....

then peeps adjust the carb to compansate for all that & a TOUCH! of carb wear.

Matt, do you ever need to file the needle? I don't recall you saying that you do?

If not, then what can it be? If all you're doing is having the mixture adjusted, then clearly your jet is moving.
I'd remove any trace of the original bi-metallic strip (in case you haven't already).
Ages ago - Before i knew any better, i'd just run a bead of weld along the side of the bi-met strip - definately not what you want to do.
You could also try adding another, or a stiffer spring under the jet holder..

Basically, look at that VERY simple assembly and see what you can do to make it more sturdy.

Fair comment Ben, it's just when i say it goes out of tune i mean with in a mile some times! if i come back from the Rolling road, alls going well, if i have a few hard boots i notice it has becomes less smooth then a few mins again, and when i got back to the RR the mixture has gone out. so i see your point about the wear:) that would put things out mate *wink* but don't think it's that in this case if you see me point.*happy*

Dave yes i did have the needle shaven but i haven't done so for a while now, it's all done now but the ajuster screw, so yes maybe it is the jet holder moving, i have self tapped the stripps together and welded all round it., i'll get a solid one like hoggy and Tonys got this and try that then.

I wasn't sure if there was any thing else that moves in the carb? am i rigth in thinking the choke is more of a jet and hole to let the fuel in, rather than unlike on the old SUs where it moves the jet holder up & down.?

Cheers fellers

His is a massive thread revival but hey ho.
Matt did you ever get to the bottom of your issue and what are these mods to the carb you talk of. I can't seem to find the info.
Mine runs fine on idle and drives ok but after a short time (probably getting warm) the mix goes way off and you have to pick up the idle and alter the mixture screw to get it to run right. Then it will go all wrong the other way by the time you've drove it home.

There was a mod that nic did a write up on where the bi-metallic strip that holds the jet is replaced with a home built solid item to stop it from moving

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!
