Hiya, new guy here..

I currently have a 1990 998 Mayfair in british Racing Green...

I have a friend that is a meechanic, and he suggested that if I got an engine/gearbox and the bits n bobs I'd need for the engine to go in, he'd put any A-series engine in for me for 150 quid.. fair deal I thought.. So I was thinking.. 1380 or Metro Turbo... The thing is, Im on a budget.. Im leaning towards the turbo side because I just love the idea that my Mini's a turbo, look heh...

So how much can I get an MG Metro engine and gear box for?

Oh and ALSO, how much work is involved in what I was told you had to do and take out the bulk head..? Will he know he'll have to do this being a mechanic?

when you say your on a budget what is your budget £50 quid or £5000 ?
if your on a tight budget id say leave the turbo project for now unless you can get a full running engine that you can drive and check eveything is hunkey durey.
buying the parts off ebay etc is always a lot risky. expectmost parts to be knackered and need a rebuild unless your lucky.
dont want to put you off just being real.
check out by doing a search what you need its quite a big list.

good luck*smiley*

good luck

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

For the bulk head all you need to do is buy a box form somewhere like Avonbar and have that fit.

Have to agree with Carl, this is not a low budget tuning idea any more. Beware of ebay stuff, I paid for stuff that never turned up now twice and ebay couldn't care less.

A tip on that front; pay using paypal, you then get some form of protection.
1) It is down to the seller to be able to prove they have sent your item
2) You have dispute resolution through PayPal.

Well worth using.

Near Daventry, midlands

Another note for fleabay, the payment protection from paypal is only able to refund whats in the sellers paypal account. Hence if the seller has just half of what you handed over for the goods, you will only get half back. They can also delay the paypal resoltion by sending them nonsense emails.

edit2: still better/safer than cheque imo

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

ah but if your paypal is through you credit card then you get double protection usually. If they dont provide the goods then get the CC company to claim it back. Worked for me on normal CC transactions and i'm sure it must work with paypal?

"pretty it up" and "properly rebuilding" are two VERY DIFFERENT things...........

For £500 you've no chance of making a reliable turbo install to be quite honest. If that is your budget, stick to a 1275 na lump.

I paid £250 for a complete metro turbo with gearbox gone

£125 for a complete turbo engine although I found the head to be cracked

You just have to look around, unless I spot it first !!

Metro turbo weekend driver,Mini turbo in the making again!
