hi all,
im stripping down my turbo engine to put my new bits on at long last. im fairly new to the turbo scene s-o sorry to be a pain with the boring questions. I have a few questions to ask that you turbo nutters will hopefully have the answers for.

1) i dont know which cam to use. most people use the phase two turbo cam from avonbar but i was wondering what the sw5 cam would be like. What would you recomend?

2) what is a sensible boost to run for fast road and track use without putting strain on the engine.

3)What sort of bhp am i looking to get out of my spec with the boost and cam you recomend you recomend.

engine spec:

mirage manafold
renault 5 t2 turbo
ported and gasflowed head
1.5:1 rockers
doulble valve springs
lightened fly wheel
grp A head gasket
ford rs intercooler
4 pin diff
k&n
powerflow large bore single box system

thanks

If in Doubt, go flat out !!!

The phase 2 is the way to go. The SW5 is a great cam for use in NA engines, but the phase 2 has extended exhaust duration tailored to the turbo setup.

The glaring omission to me is what pistons do you intend to run? In addition, the main mod you need to do to the cyl head is to increase the chamber size to lower the compression ratio.
Group A head gasket it turns out is not really required. I say "turns out" as before I found this forum, I had my engine modified to accept the group A gasket. I think I have the only engine I know of that uses this gasket?

You're not alone Tom i also used this "overpriced" gasket. lol.

Like Tom i also reccomend the P2 cam, as do many others. Great for a fast road motor, and also doesn't sem to be much of a limiting factor where big power is sought.

I'm guessing your wanting something fairly road driveable, but with a decent bit of go when required ?
Drop the compression to about 8.5-1 use the Minispares Mega pistons and run 10-12psi. {standard pistons will do the job at this boost, but i doubt you'll be lucky enough to find a standard engine which isn't in need of a rebore} Providing the engine and transmission is well built and properly set up, you should have many miles of happy motoring.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

the phase 2 is excellent to say the least

its got great road manners & produces the goods!

my advice is ditch the 1.5 rockers and stick with 1.3s with the phase 2

oh! place on your list the Avonbar supaflow oil pump is the one to use

the minispares one is made of wood & wears out easily!

yeah i hear if you run the 1:3 rockers over the 1:5, you are likely to gain at the bottom end, without sacrificing much if anything at all at the top end, but then you could always try both and see what works best for your set up? :)
