engine has been running fine all week, one morning it decided not to start, even though there was fuel and a spark, suspecting the dizzy amplifier modue thinking that the sparl was not strong enough set about changing it for a new new. new one did not produce any spark. so changed the coil for a new ne putting back on the old amplifier unit. engine than ran but would hardly run under around 3k, you need o rev it hard and keep it above 3k, this happens with the old and new coil on..

this happned on my 1275 enine and a new coil sorted the problem but in this case with the turbo engine it hasnt, anyone got any ideas? could it be the actual dizzy??

Forgotten more than most ever know

Try putting in a new set of spark plugs and check the carb for dirt in the needle valve. Sometimes the sparks just fail and won?t run under cylinder pressure. This is confusing since once you remove the spark, clean it and try for spark with the plug earthed against the engine block there is a nice spark. This especially with cold plugs and cold climate. Try a normal 1275 plug like BP6ES.

If it is still dead I?d check the carb for dirt. Easiest way to check if it fuel related is to pour a slight amount of gasoline into the carb. Difficult with sealed SU but remove the dashpot, put the fuel in and put the dashpot back in. Start the car. If it runs for awhile, fuelling is the problem. Then it is carb off time for thorough cleaning.

the only other dizzy i have is from a non-turbo engine, will one of those fit onto the turbo block? i take it you need to use the non turbo drive shaft for the dizzy??

the problem is the engine almost stalls under 3k, you need to keep it above 3k for it to run ok, the guy at the local roling road said that the mixture screw wasnt having any effect, stuck, so its running very rich, but this kind of problem wouldnt happen over night would it?

they are new plugs in the engine

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Same problem as i had! I never solved it but somebody had a similar problem and it was the choke o-ring seals. Cause it to run rich and wont idle etc, but goes like a rocket on boost! Try them! they go hard with age.

have you tried running it without an airfilter? had a problem a while ago witha K&N style one that just suddently got blocked up (over about 3 days) and made engine run so rich, even my local tuning guy changed the needle!!! havent been back to him since.... he didnt even take filter off!!!

i soon realised problem, changed filter and needle back, and it ran fine.

hello guys, yeah it was a problem with the carb running rich, and it did start to go well on boost, i took the bottom off the carb and scewed in and out the mixture screw, after screwing it in all the way, the bi-met strip thingy was not returning, only happened if you screwed it in all the way, so after relasing it i only screwed it in 3/4 of the way and it doesnt stick now, so its set up right and runs great!
