being fanatical about 1/4 mile im very interested in lightweight. interested in what other people have done in thi field. i've got my sprint down to 490kgs but should hopefully be as light as 465kgs by july '06. its still all metal not neccessarily steel though.

I seriously doubt it!

1860lb / 843kg incl driver last time i raced. I remember distinctly it had exactly half a tank of fuel aswell (although it was 'gas' rather than the pertol i used to put in when in england - not sure if it weighs the same...).

Lose say 20kg for the tools and spare-wheel I had in the car that time, and it's 1816lb / 823kg
The driver weighs in at 90kg, so that's around 1617 lb / 733kg for just the mini.

That's the weight I've raced at Avon (full trim) for the past howevermany years...

In honesty, That's probably as heavy-a-turbo mini you could find - the only 'weight saving' compnents I've got in the mini is drilled tower-bolts, and minifins!

oh - i've always got my laptop with me on runs - and if anyone has seen it they'll know what a 'brick' it is - well that's at least another 100kg!!!

Holy crap - Your mini is 67% the weight of mine - or I'm 33% heavier than you...

I'm not convinced it makes any difference to be honest.

leeds/wakefield.

weve been here in the past paul ,but its always an interesting one,
a few of us weighed our cars on scruffys scales at the showdown in 2003,
mine was 570kgs without the rear baulkhead and that weighs 8kgs, two full bottles of gas and almost full on fuel were on board. i cannot see it getting any lighter.lol

I must get mine weighed properly sometime (well when the new one's finished).

I had the old car weighed at 590kgs but I've easily taken 30kgs out since then.

mine should be about 550kg (guess) I think, endaf used to run it with 30kg's of lead to meet the 650kg weight requirement for racing

I'm not sure how Matt.

What's the difference between our minis?

Only thing i can think is that you have an extra 1" of alloy on each wheel, maybe not minifins, and maybe not drilled tower bolts...
I believe you also have lightewight seats now, rather than the 20+kg recaro's in mine?

Either your scales are out, or the ones at the racetrack (and the Eaton Manchester Tare bridge) are out - but there is nothing else to separate them i believe?

Nope...

a little over 1kg.
Then there is an adaptor plate...

'picking peanuts out of poo' is an expression that seems apt here...

I just seem to recall when me and PetterJ measured them that there was a massive difference. That was including the Mirage manifold though which I know you haven't got.

I can believe that, having seen many mirage manifolds (having worked with rich) and felt how light they are, but TBH never picked up a cast manifold!!

Cast manifold is pretty heavy - then there is an adaptor plate, and i'm still running a (modified) cast elbow aswell...

There is a noticeable difference between my turbo mounted on the exhaust manifold and downpipe (mirage) and my old t3 with its cast manifold etc - next time my turbo is off i'll weigh it....

Or more important, what is mounted on your front left side? :)

That will need some sorting with adjustment of the Hi-Los...
